SUMMARY:The Scent of Nostalgia: A Living Green Wall Within Reach
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Ovata  \n  \nWhat if a wall could carry memory\, scent\, and greenery—all at once? \n  \nInspired by the traditional Korean  병풍 Byung-poong (folding screen) \, Ovata presents a site-flexible installation: a  portable living wall  composed of hinged\, frame-based panels filled with  California native plants. Spread throughout the event venue\, these sculptural pieces are more than dividers—they are  multi-sensory green moments  that offer a breath of nature\, evoke regional nostalgia\, and serve as quiet visual anchors within the event energy. \n  \nEach panel transforms the space with  natural scents\, living textures \, and a subtle reference to the cultural practice of honoring people and place. Think of it as a  living scroll of memory and nature —brought into the present. \n  \nRather than serving as a static backdrop\, this installation  gently guides the flow of people \, encouraging organic circulation while shaping cozy niches for gathering\, pausing\, and connecting. Like a breeze through a forest\, its layout invites movement and mingling while offering soft\, intimate pockets of calm \n  \n Schedule:    \nNo fixed schedule. SUMMARY:Thinking through Materials: Family Artmaking Workshop & Parent Conversation on Nurturing Children’s Creative Development
DESCRIPTION:*** EVENT SOLD OUT***\nSan Francisco Children’s Art Center (SFCAC) is opening our art studio to SF Design Week participants with children ages 5-10 years old for a morning of creative fun and insightful conversation. \nThis family workshop will combine hands-on artmaking with conversations for the grown-ups on strategies to nurture your children’s creative development. Families will create together with a 3-D building activity that exemplifies SFCAC’s “Thinking through Materials” process-oriented methodology. As our teaching artists facilitate the engagement\, we’ll share the ways our unique approach sparks ideation\, fosters critical thinking\, and enhances communication skills. \nSan Francisco Children’s Art Center is a non-profit organization founded in 1978 with the mission to empower children and nurture their sense of self through creative exploration. In our art studio and in schools across San Francisco\, SFCAC serves more than 1200 students annually\, supporting children as they develop language to share their ideas\, learn to solve challenges\, and connect with others through visual storytelling. \nSchedule: \n10 am: Coffee\, juice\, and light refreshments \n10:15 am – 11:15 am: Facilitation of 3-D building engagement & conversations \n11:15 am – 12 pm: SFCAC’s Painting Wall opens for children with continued parent Q&A \n*Space is limited\, please RSVP with the total number of family participants who will be attending by selecting the appropriate amount of  ‘tickets’.

DESCRIPTION:*** EVENT SOLD OUT***\nJoin artist John Roloff and the Museum of Craft and Design’s Curatorial Director Ariel Zaccheo to explore the power of speculative dreaming. This participatory discussion draws inspiration from MCD’s current exhibition A Roadmap to Stardust\, an immersive exhibition featuring the work of John Roloff and Neil Forrest that explores the history of humankind as told through ceramics\, mythology\, and fictional archaeologies. It invites participants to question how our present moment will be remembered thousands of years from now. Will the stories and technologies of our time become the stuff of legend? What role does mythology play in our modern understanding of the past? And perhaps most pressingly\, how can history inform our ideas of the future?\nEvent tickets include museum admission to two exhibitions concurrently on view: A Roadmap to Stardust and Beau McCall: Buttons On!.\n\nThis is an SFDW exclusive!
