SUMMARY:Social Justice Design Tour: Meet the innovative architects and partners behind the new Restorative Justice Hub in SOMA
DESCRIPTION:How can we use space for healing? We invite mission-driven designers and allies to join us at Designing Justice + Designing Spaces’ recently completed restorative justice space for Community Works in SF’s SOMA district to learn about the community-engaged process and innovative partnerships that made it happen! In this volatile time when justice is under attack\,  it is more important than ever that we shine a light on stories of hope\, creativity\, and collaboration in our industry and beyond.  \nDJDS is an architecture and real estate firm harnessing the power of the built environment to end mass incarceration. After 25 years of transforming lives in the Bay Area through programs rooted in humanity and healing\, Community Works partnered with DJDS to establish its first San Francisco office—a dedicated home for critical services that support people at every stage of involvement in the justice system\, from prevention to reentry. The 6\,000-square-foot sanctuary represents a radical alternative to the criminal legal system; instead\, it provides an empowering space where individuals can thrive and feel safe. \nAt this event\, you’ll have the opportunity to see\, touch\, and experience trauma-informed design in action\, and meet the cross-sector team that made this innovative project possible\, including industry leaders such as Turner Construction. We’ll share more about how we were able to collaborate with values-aligned partners at every stage of the project\, from acoustical engineering to custom furnishings. The event will kick off with tours and a cocktail reception\, followed by a panel discussion and Q&A with key partners\, including: \n\nDeanna-Van Buren\, Co-Founder and Executive Director\, Designing Justice + Designing Spaces \nAdrienne Hogg\,  Co-Executive Director\, Community Works\nChelsea Wong\, Project Manager\, Turner Construction\nEmily Pilloton-Lam\, Founder and Executive Director\, Girls Garage\nSasha Plotitsa\, Founder and CEO\, The Formr\nRashanda Udekwu\, Director of Strategic Partnerships\, Waymo (Formerly of CRI) \n\nEvent Surprise! We will unveil a limited-edition furniture piece designed by DJDS and Formr. Proceeds will benefit A New Way of Life\, a nonprofit organization that provides housing and support for formerly incarcerated women. \n  \nPhoto: Jordan Park

SUMMARY:Dynamic Minds\, Brilliant Creativity: AIDLIN DARLING AND BAMO
DESCRIPTION:“Dynamic Minds\, Brilliant Creativity” Led by Best-selling author of 25 books on design and architecture\, Instagram influencer\, design lecturer and instructor\, and founder of THE STYLE SALONISTE blog\, Diane Dorrans Saek\, this year’s expanded interior designer program follows on the great success of last year’s program. The program offers a rare opportunity to tour top architecture and interior design studios\, meet with designers and architects one-on-one\, as well as attend talks and seminars led by Dorrans Saeks\nAttendees are invited to a private reception at end of day\, 5pm. At this convivial time\, we recap the day\, meet the designers and architects\, and discuss design\, internships\, career inspirations and architecture.\n*Meeting place address will be given on completion of ticket booking.\n*No refunds available \nAIDLIN DARLING DESIGN \nJoshua Aidlin and David Darling began their partnership crafting furniture together in a San Francisco wood shop in 1998. Today\, this history of craft and passion for shared making anchors its collaborative process. The firm’s approach to each project is client and site specific\, and includes open communication among clients\, consultants\, fabricators\, and builders. \nAt Aidlin Darling Design\, the firm thinks of design as a sensory art\, one where the way a space feels is as important as how it looks. As a multidisciplinary firm\, this ethos is its guiding principle across projects of any scale\, use\, or purpose. \nThe firm recently collaborated with director Braden King on a film that explores how its studio’s work moves beyond just the visual to engage all of the senses. The result\, Aidlin Darling Design: Architecture for the Senses\, captures the firm’s ethos and commitment to creating soulful environments. \nBAMO \nFor thirty years\, BAMO has created captivating environments that flow\, function\, and make people feel welcome\, at ease\, and inspired to live — and to dream — more fully. A collective of designers\, the firm brings to each project a richness of experience and perspective\, along with an impassioned view of life and our work. \nThe firm engages clients graciously\, listening for the unspoken needs beneath their stated desires. Speaking to the psyche through the senses\, and building in layers of meaning\, the firm creates true havens: places apart from the everyday. Its interpretive skill is matched by the rigor\, expertise\, and ingenuity the firm brings to seeing projects through to completion. This is why hospitality\, residential\, and corporate clients around the world trust BAMO to bring their visions to life.
