SUMMARY:The Connectivity of Craft
DESCRIPTION:*** EVENT SOLD OUT*** \nThe place we call home has a vast influence on what we make. But how do the things we make actually shape the fabric of our home? How does the production of craft — whether in the form of a sculpture\, garment\, or a gathering — influence our environment and sense of community? What does it take to build creative ecosystems\, and what conditions allow those ecosystems to blossom? \nThrough the lens of four individuals working across art\, design\, education and community-building\, we’ll explore how their creative practices contribute to our experience of connection and culture. \n\nKatherine Lam is an independent designer/builder and Program Lead for the Furniture Program at California College of the Arts.  Kathy’s practice spans nearly 3 decades of engagement with furniture and the handmade object and has recently expanded into the intersections of craft + community practice.\nEvan Kinori is a garment designer and patternmaker with a shop and studio space in San Francisco’s Mission District\, showcasing clothing\, furniture and objects. His simple collection of garments is made of the highest quality artisan fabrics from around the world\, constructed with meticulous attention to detail.\nYvonne Mouser is an Oakland based artist\, designer\, and maker whose work exists between the practical and conceptual\, spanning furniture\, objects\, experiences\, and sculpture. Her practice investigates ideas through experimentation with concepts\, materials\, and methods to create small run production and one-of-a-kind pieces.\nDavid Wilson is an artist who creates observational drawings based in direct experiences with landscape\, and orchestrates site-based gatherings that draw together a wide net of artists\, performers\, filmmakers\, chefs\, and artisans into collaborative relationships.\nThe conversation will be moderated by Kelley Perumbeti\, cofounder of Works In Progress and Office of Tangible Space.\n\nHosted at Space Theory\, this panel discussion is part of Works In Progress\, an exhibition series with a mission to amplify\, archive and create dialogue around the Bay Area craft & design community. \nSchedule: \n\n6:00PM-6:30PM Check in\n6:30PM – 7:30PM Panel discussion\n7:30PM-8:00PM Wrap up
