SUMMARY:Design for wellbeing: Building the positive corner of the internet at Pinterest
DESCRIPTION:*** EVENT SOLD OUT***\nAs Pinterest celebrates 15 years\, teens and Gen Z are our fastest growing demographics. Young people tell us it feels like a “safe corner of the internet” or that it’s like “being in my own little world.” \nBut why? What’s going into that feeling of calm and sense of open exploration that happens while browsing and saving to Pinterest? Believe it or not\, a lot. \nAt Pinterest\, we prioritize “designing the good in” rather than simply “keeping the bad out.” And in an ongoing mental health crisis marked with fragmented attention spans\, doomscrolling\, and comparison\, Pinterest has been scaffolding guardrails to build a future friendly platform that actually improves wellbeing rather than depletes it. \nJoin us for an interactive session to learn about the science of inspiration and its impact on wellbeing and moreover\, what you can do to “design the good in” to your own practice. \nSPEAKERS: \nMINNIE BREDOUW is a Principal & Creative Director at Pinterest leads many of the wellbeing initiatives across Pinterest ranging from teen experience\, user education\, the future of social\, and beyond. She also founded Big Wonder\, an edtech product focused on helping teens find purpose amidst the mental health crisis. Her work has been featured in TIME Magazine\, Wall Street Journal\, SXSW\, and Bloomberg\, to name a few. In her spare time\, she teaches Design for Social Impact and Design for Inclusion at the graduate level. \nLARKIN BROWN is the Senior Director of Product Research at Pinterest\, where she helps shape the vision for creating a more inclusive and positive experience for millions of Pinners worldwide. As a founding member of Pinterest’s inclusive product team\, Larkin helped spearhead the development of industry-first features like skin tone ranges\, hair pattern and body type search\, and digital wellbeing measurement—helping users see themselves represented and supporting their mental health as they discover ideas online. Her work and perspective have been featured in the Wall Street Journal\, Business Insider\, Wired\, Forbes\, Glamour\, Vogue\, and on the TODAY Show. Outside of Pinterest\, Larkin channels her love for personal style as a freelance stylist—and chases around her young children.
